Hello!

My name is L.T. Lyles, a mom, grandmom, veteran teacher (M.Ed), and former literacy consultant with over 30 years in education. My specialty is teaching kids to read. I taught kindergarten and First Grade for many years.

I created Reading Ready Foundations to help prepare my grandson for school, and to offer help to parents who are looking for support. Jumpstart Kinder offers a method of teaching reading that is effective even for children under the age of five.

Meet L.T. Lyles: The Teacher, Grandma, and Reading Expert Behind Jumpstart Kinder

Your Partner in Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten Reading Success

For over 30 years, I’ve had one mission: to make the miracle of reading accessible to every child. As a veteran classroom teacher, literacy consultant, and proud grandma with a Master’s in Education, I’ve dedicated my life to discovering the most effective ways to teach children to read.

I created Jumpstart Kinder out of a simple need: to give my own grandson the strongest possible start on his reading journey. I wanted a kindergarten readiness program that was rooted in science-based phonics and phonemic awareness, taught in a logical, sequential order. When I couldn’t find a resource that combined all of this for parents, I built it myself.

The result?  By 2 ½ years old, my grandson wasn’t just memorizing—he was truly reading. He was:

This isn’t magic. It’s method. And it’s a method proven in my classroom with hundreds of students.

Many children struggle with reading not because they aren’t trying, but because they haven’t been taught the foundational skills explicitly.  My Jumpstart Kinder curriculum closes that gap. It gives you, the parent, a simple, step-by-step blueprint for teaching reading at home—no guesswork required.

You get the same effective, easy-to-follow strategies I used as a teacher and now use as a grandma. This is more than a curriculum; it’s a partnership to ensure your child becomes a confident, joyful reader, ready to excel in kindergarten and beyond.

I am so thrilled to share this journey with you and your family.

Here’s to building a confident reader from the ground up, together,

Founder of Reading Ready Foundations
30-Year Veteran Teacher & Literacy Consultant

For over a year, I have been using and testing our Jumpstart Kinder Curriculum to teach my grandson to read, making modifications where necessary for his age category. At 2 ½ years old this is what he has learned:

  • He has learned the letters and sounds of the alphabet
  • He has developed exceptional oral language and comprehension skills
  • He can write his letters from A-Z
  • He is blending letter sounds to read words
  • He is reading sight words and decodable readers
  • And so much more…..

I have been an educator for years, believe me when I tell you that often, there are gaps in reading or kids struggle with reading, not because they are not trying, but because they haven’t been taught correctly…

Phonics and phonemic awareness must be included in the curriculum, and taught explicitly in a sequential, logical order. Many times, this is what’s missing in our schools.

Parents, there is an approach to teaching kids to read that’s effective. Allow me to share the method I’ve used with my students and grandson with you. I’ve used it to teach hundreds of kids to read. It works!
